Putting Wildflower Research to Work!

The Florida Wildflower Foundation is putting wildflower research to work with a mini-symposium 3:00-6:00pm, Thursday, April 3, in the Exhibition Building at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee (1901 Chief Osceola Trail).

This mini-symposium will provide nursery and landscape professionals with an overview of science-based information on seed germination and storage, propagation methods for new-to-the-marketplace species, and establishment and management of native wildflower plantings. This educational event features three of Florida’s leading native wildflower researchers:

  • Dr. Hector Perez, a University of Florida seed biologist in Gainesville, will present the results of his work and its relevance.
  • Dr. Mack Thetford, a University of Florida/IFAS faculty member at the West Florida Research & Education Center (Milton), will talk about his collaboration with Dr. Sandy Wilson (University of Florida/IFAS, Indian River REC, Ft. Pierce) to develop native wildflower propagation protocols.
  • Dr. Jeff Norcini, will present the science behind recommendations for establishing and managing native wildflower plantings.

This mini-symposium is being held in conjunction with the Native Plant Showsponsored by the Florida Association of Native Nurseries.
