Beach Dunes Zone South Florida

Neutral to alkaline soil composed of coarse sand and shell fragments, with little organic matter content, low fertility and some salt content, and exceedingly well-drained. Plants are adapted to hot, dry, sunny and windy conditions and do poorly when grown in the shade or planted in rich soils, or those with poor drainage. Plants are very salt tolerant, but some are frost sensitive.
